Memory Foam Tips

    Memory Foam for Back Pain

After a hard days work and sitting down for excessive periods of time, I find that my back is in agony and my pressure points surrounding my back are literally feeling like they are ready to explode.

There is quite simply nothing worse than pressure sores and an aching back, when all you want to do is get home to relax.

Chiropractors and health professions have reported that many people are suffering with back pain from sitting or lying for lengthy periods of time and there is not enough support for our backs when at work.

I suppose when we consider that on average we are sitting for 7 hours a day on sometimes hard, uncomfortable chairs and then sleeping for 7 hours on sometimes hard, uncomfortable mattresses, our bodies are subjected to more than it can handle and is naturally calling out for help.

This is one of the many benefits for purchasing a memory foam mattress or a memory foam seat cover, as it provides the comfort your body needs to put an end to back pain, just like I did.

As memory foam is made with visco-elastic material so that it contours to your body shape and retains heat, you have the warmth and support you need to put your back pain to an end for good.

There are many manufacturers for memory foam and so take a look around for the best product for you, whether it is to cure your back pain when sleeping or like me to cure your back pain when sitting, let the wonders of memory foam take care of it.

1 out of 5 stars Not my best purchase.   March 5, 2007

The 12" King Celebrity Pillow Top Memory Foam Mattress Bed that I recieved feels NOTHING like the Tempur-Pedic Celebrity that I tried out (and fell in love with) in store. I am also disappointed in the quality of product, or lack thereof. The 80% price difference should have tipped me off. I'm wondering what the other reviewer's of this product, with their rave reviews, see in this product that I don't.

This purchase reminded me of two things: 1)If it seems to good to be true, it probably is. AND 2)You get what you pay for.

Not a big deal but worth noting: Fed Ex gave me the run around, but finally delivered product 2 weeks from the date of order.

4 out of 5 stars Great Bed for Price   March 8, 2007

This is not exactly like a Tempur-Pedic bed, but a close second. It is a little harder, and does have a little odor. The odor does go away after a couple days and is not oppressive in the first place.
For 3000 less than Tempur-Pedic, it is well worth the price. I have slept better since getting the bed, and love just laying on it. I would recommend it to any friend looking for a bed.

Some Notes: You also must have a standard foundation and a bed frame to go along with your Sleep shop bed, this adds about $300 of cost to the product, keep that in mind when buying.

1 out of 5 stars Smell is from Toluene diisocyanate which mattress contains.   April 11, 2007

It has not been classified by the EPA as carcinogenic for humans. But it certainly is not good for your health. The EPA has not classified this as a carcinogenic substance for humans although there is some fairly compelling data suggesting carcinogenic effects in laboratory animals.

See below

A serious health concern is that toluene may have an effect on your brain. Toluene can cause headaches, confusion, and memory loss. Whether or not toluene does this to you depends on the amount you take in and how long you are exposed. Low to moderate, day-after-day exposure in your workplace can cause tiredness, confusion, weakness, drunken-type actions, memory loss, nausea, and loss of appetite. These symptoms usually disappear when exposure is stopped. Researchers do not know if the low levels of toluene you breathe at work will cause any permanent effects on your brain or body after many years. You may experience some hearing loss after long-term daily exposure to toluene in the workplace.

If you are exposed to a large amount of toluene in a short time because you deliberately sniff paint or glue, you will first feel light-headed. If exposure continues, you can become dizzy, sleepy, or unconscious. You might even die. Toluene causes death by interfering with the way you breathe and the way your heart beats. When exposure is stopped, the sleepiness and dizziness will go away and you will feel normal again.

If you choose to repeatedly breathe in toluene from glue or paint thinners, you may permanently damage your brain. You may also experience problems with your speech, vision, or hearing, have loss of muscle control, loss of memory, poor balance, and decreased mental ability. Some of these changes may be permanent.

Toluene may change the way your kidneys work, but in most cases, the kidneys will return to normal after exposure stops. If you drink alcohol and are exposed to toluene, the combination can affect your liver more than either compound alone. This phenomenon is called synergism. Combinations of toluene and some common medicines like aspirin and acetaminophen may increase the effects of toluene on your hearing.

In animals, the main effect of toluene is on the nervous system. Animals exposed to moderate or high levels of toluene may also show slightly adverse effects in their liver, kidneys, and lungs.

Several studies have shown that unborn animals were harmed when high levels of toluene were breathed in by their mothers. When the mothers were fed high levels of toluene, the unborn animals did not show any structural birth defects, although some effects on behavior were noted. We do not know if toluene would harm your unborn child if you drink water or breathe air containing low levels of toluene, because studies in people are not comprehensive enough to measure this effect. However, if you deliberately breathe in large amounts of toluene during your pregnancy, your baby can have neurological problems and retarded growth and development.

Studies in workers and in animals exposed to toluene indicate that toluene does not cause cancer. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) have not classified toluene for carcinogenic effects. The EPA has determined that toluene is not classifiable as to its human carcinogenicity."

I love this mattress. The longer you stay in one place the better if feels. It is not hot; it justs warms up the same as my own body. All I want to do is get in bed!!! I like it better than the two Celebrity Tempurpedics I have tried. Buying this mattress was a no brainer. I was discouraged when I saw that someone thought it was too hard. I don't think so AT all. I find it to be softer than the Tempurpedic Celebrity Mattress whih feels like a BRICK compared to my new mattress. My only complaint?? Sleep Shop sells them on ebay for $499 + $89 shipping and that is a much better deal. Same company, same everything. When I called them, they wouldn't let me cancel my AMAZON order without a 20% fee. This is bad business. I would have done it, but it woudn't have saved me any money. They simply said I should have done better research-- and they were right. They do have horrible customer service, but the bed rocks.

I have been looking at the tempurpedic celebrity bed for the last 2 years, but have been unable to justify the high cost. So, when i found this product, it seemed to good to be true. I had heard that you need to be careful about buying memory foam made in other countries since they may contain harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde (sp?). I emailed the sleep shop about this concern and they promptly messaged me back that it is made in china but does not contain any harmful chemicals and is upheld to the same strict standards since it is imported to the US. Since I recieved this info in writing I decided to trust it. I bought a queen size for a guest bedroom and could not be more satisfied. They say it is made of the same 5.3 lb density foam as the celebrity bed. It does not have the cashmere cover like the celebrity bed, but who really needs that. There probably is some other differences, but honestly I can't tell! It feels wonderful and with the extremely nice price its a total no brainer. My only complaint is that they do not make a cal. king. I really want to replace my own bed. So, Sleep Shop if you read these reviews PLEASE come out with a cal king size!!
